Miss Andretti Takes Out Horse Of The Year Honours.

Champion mare Miss Andretti has become the first sprinter for 20 years to be named Australian Racehorse of the Year at the 2007 Australian Racehorse of the Year & Hall of Fame gala dinner at Royal Randwick.

Lee Freedman’s superstar enjoyed a stellar 2006-07 season in which she earned the reputation as the best turf sprinter in the world. Miss Andretti won four Group 1 races for the season – the Manikato Stakes, Lightning Stakes and Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley and the Newmarket Handicap at Caulfield.

To complete a wonderful night Miss Andretti was also named the Williams Inglis & Son Champion Sprinter and the Sky Channel Most Popular Racehorse.

Eight legends of the turf were inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame.

Darren Beadman and Arthur Ward were inducted into the Racing In Australia Jockey category, former Chairman of the STC Harry Tancred was inducted as a Racing Hall of Fame Associate, champion gallopers Flight, Grand Flaneur and Super Impose were inducted into the Arrowfield Stud Hall of Fame Racehorse category while Fred Best and racing's first lady Gai Waterhouse became Longines Hall of Fame trainers.

An emotional Waterhouse joined her legendary father and inaugural inductee T.J. Smith as a Hall of Fame trainer.

Not surprisingly immortal galloper and inaugural Hall of Fame member Phar Lap was inducted as the first Tabcorp Racing Hall of Fame Legend.

More than 700 people attended the Australian Racehorse of the Year & Hall of Fame sponsored by Tabcorp and Sky Channel, the first time the event has been held in Sydney.

The night also featured a special tribute and toast to inaugural Hall of Fame inductee Scobie Breasley, who passed away in December last year.

Legendary racing journalist Bill Whittaker was also honoured with the Star City Chairman’s Award.

Other award winners were:

Design Awards Champion Jumper – Some Are Bent; Yallambee Stud Champion Two-Year-Old - Meurice; New Zealand Bloodstock Champion Three-Year-Old Filly – Miss Finland; New Zealand Thoroughbred Marketing Champion Three-Year-Old Colt/Gelding – Haradasun; Racing NSW BOBS Champion Middle Distance Award – Desert War; Eliza Park Stud Champion Stayer – Delta Blues; IRT Champion International Performer – Takeover Target; Lexus Australian Stayers Challenge Championship – Tawqeet and the Sire Custodians Ltd & Carazzo Consulting CPA’s Champion Sire – Flying Spur.
